Review Tales of Ever After 2 for 1

tOUR EA

Today as part of the blog tour I’m reviewing not one but two stories from the Fellowship of Fantasy’s latest anthology.  The person who leaves the most comments across the blog tour will receive the chance to read special sneak peaks from several of the authors’ upcoming works!

My first review is of Emily Martha Sorensen’s “Third Princess”. She takes the story trope of the clever or good-hearted sibling fails where the selfish or ignorant ones fail is turned on its ear. In “Third Princess”, the question asked is what if each sister were uniquely gifted and her skills and preferences lead to diplomacy? The story is told from the point of view of each sister. The older two are neglected and dismissed by their mother, who’s placed all of her hope in her third born. This story is tightly written with a bit of humor and is a fun take on a classic tale. Based on this story, I’d read other works by Emily Martha Sorensen.

My second review is of Alex McGilvery’s “A Week After Midnight”. Has anyone ever thought about Prince Charming and how he accepted Ella into the palace? I adored this story. Ella is a practical girl and Charming is a kind but rather clueless and spoiled prince. He trails Ella around to various servants and interviews them. It seems she of the tiny slippered foot has been making some changes around the palace. I love how the story serves as a clever story of a prince trying to be a better man and lesson on what it takes to run a kingdom. Again, based on this story, I’d read other works by Alex McGilvery.

Not only did have the pleasure of reading these stories, my short story “Being Seen” is part of this anthology. You can check out my post about my favorite fairy tale on Eagle Nest Mom. It’s part of the tour so if you post a comment, it counts!

So to bait you for making comments, I have to ask, what is your favorite fairy tale retelling that mixes up the trope or is told from a different point-of-view?
