Traveling With Tolkien Part Two

Little by little, one travels far”

So, we finally made it to Philadelphia!
It was a long drive, but I have to admit, I slept most of the way. We arrived a couple of days early. It’s been nice to be able to do a little sightseeing and get my bearings again before jumping into conference activities. I’m totally pumped about the conference though! 🙂

“The way is shut. It was made by those who are Dead, and the Dead keep it, until the time comes. The way is shut.”

We went through some pretty cool looking tunnels/Dwimorberg Mountain on the way here.

“Home is behind, the world ahead,
and there are many paths to tread
through shadows to the edge of night,
until the stars are all alight.”

There was some beautiful scenery on the way out here, also a decent amount of traffic. You can’t really tell from this pic though.

“You will not pass!”

Yep! There it is. Look at that dirt bike though. Those people know how to travel right. 🙂

“Courage is found in unlikely places.”

I saw this beside the bathroom at a gas station on the way here. I felt safer just by standing next to it. I also felt like doing the safety dance.

“…a perfect house, whether you like food or sleep or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all.’ Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness.”

We finally made it to the house where we’re staying. I want to keep this house.

“Fear nothing! Have peace until the morning! Heed no nightly noises!”

I’m sharing a room with my sister. It’s the first time we’ve shared a bunk bed since we were kids. You know that fear every kid has about the top bunk caving in on them? It turns out, I still have it.
Also, do you see that ladder? If you run into that ladder hard enough in the dark, it will fling across the room with a great crashing sound that will wake everyone in the house. My sister keeps the light on now until she gets into bed. 😉

Well, I’ll be sharing more about the conference part next Wednesday. Hope you guys are having a great week so far!

“May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks.”

Oh, and here’s a picture of an Oliphaunt. They had a safari ride at Six Flags here. Who knew?

Flapping big ears.
Beyond count of years
I stump round and round,
Never lie on the ground,
Not even to die.
Oliphaunt am I
