I’ve always wished for the ability to draw the pictures in my mind. Alas, I can only do so with words.
But I discovered something that allows me to get close 🙂
I’ve never been a fan of building games ala Minecraft. I’m just not creative enough.
But when a friend offered me access to the Landmark Closed Beta, the graphic beauty blew me away. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring the pictures in my mind to life.
It can be dangerous taking writing to artwork. The way an author pictures things is often inferior to the imagination of the reader. It can end up being a let down.
But here’s a very basic concept for the outside of the Temple of Alazon from my Godslayer series. It’s a bit off-center because I took the picture at an angle. Nowhere near done either. It took me about four weeks of tinkering to get this far.
Here’s the beginning of the sanctuary.

No, that isn’t my protagonist, Albione. He doesn’t have a mullet.
Technology has made things more accessible. The swift changes in publishing over the last decade has shown us that.
It appears art may be open to the not so artistic with software like this. I wonder if author webpages will become more interactive, with side content like art and music, in the future. I’m already seeing some of that.
Landmark and other things like it might become a fun way to offer clips to fans.
For now I’m simply enjoying the ability to explore my imagination in a way I’ve been unable to before.

i appreciate how you write. I haven’t read all you write until recently. The wording is concise and easy to read. The graphics are great. Especially the last one. I am a moon person. I have just recently began to write with someone dear to me and we haven’t had much time to devote yet to it due to pressing commitments in place already. But I look at many writing styles now and some call me and others not so much. It is easy to read and enjoy your posts. I will take all this and try to use my own imagination more than I am currently. That has been the problem. I was not privy to the use of imagination growing up. And now I struggle except when John helps me to unlock the secrets of the imagination I never could have.

Like you, Will, I can’t draw to save my life. Like you, I’d love to invest myself in graphics programs such as are available now. This is something for which I don’t have time – yet, and maybe never, as I must keep previously stated priorities straight – but should the opportunity arise I will avail myself of it.
Meanwhile I can already share what little music I’ve written as inspired by my fictional protagonist (and his then-fiancee). I won’t do it here, though, unless you’d like to hear it. 🙂
It’s fantastic you’re able to do this. I can’t draw a straight line so I have to rely on pictures collected across cyberspace and the occasional gift of my son Adam who’s an artist. Go deep, explore, create. God be praised for letting you stumble across this!
I thought I recognized the text. I just read your post last night on NAF. Your write In a balanced earthy way that appeals to me. You say much with less words and complications and a sense if calm.
