New publisher now accepting submissions

We have a new addition to our list of Publishers of Christian Speculative Fiction: Magpie Eclectic Press, which has already drawn some Likes on Facebook with the fabulous cover art for their first release, “Out of Darkness Rising,” a Novella by Gillian Bronte Adams. The novella is scheduled for release in February, so we have a bit of a wait. I, for one, am ready to buy based on the fantastic cover art alone.

The cover art alone is a Win.

It is our love for good stories – our captivation with the truth hidden in fiction and the elements of the stories that hold such truths bound within their text – that has built us up and drives us forward.—Nichole White

Magpie Eclectic is owned by Nichole White, a writer and illustrator whose background includes freelance editing and journalism.

Magpie Eclectic was created not only because of our passion for the genre itself, but also because there simply are not enough Christian Speculative publishers to go around yet.—Nichole White

Like other small presses these days, Magpie Eclectic uses print on demand for its paper editions while also distributing through Kindle, Nook, and other e-reading platforms. It is a royalty paying publisher that does not charge any fees to authors for publishing. They may, however, “approach our authors to see if they would like to split costs with us on certain marketing endeavors.” That’s pretty typical these days.

Magpie Eclectic is looking for “all subgenres that fall under the Christian Speculative banner,” and is also open to works that are “not strictly Christian and that would appeal to a more secular audience” as long as they are not in opposition to a Christian worldview.

They do not want pitches of incomplete manuscripts, or of children’s books. Manuscripts should be aimed at advanced middle grade or higher. Violence, and sensuality should be kept to a PG-13 level, and profanity should be minimal.

In addition to novels and novellas, they are also accepting short stories of about 3,000-6,000 words for inclusion in a potential anthology.

For details about Magpie Eclectic’s submission standards, see their website.

  1. Thanks for tipping us off about this publisher! I’ve been looking over their Web site and FB page this morning…

  2. Interesting, thanks for sharing!!

  3. It is always interesting to have more Publishers to meet and choose from. I am quite new to this. But the action that came out of my question a couple posts ago, has led John and I to start trying to collaborate on a story. It is an ideal situation and will help me and already is opening my mind to the many possibilities I never knew existed within. Have always been a fan of Science Fiction. And this, as I must govern myself precisely seems to be an exciting journey. And thank you to those who offered suggestions.
Look forward to the future and what creative worlds open to all here.
Nice to meet you all. And good writing for us all.

  4. Thanks for the update, Kristen. I’ve read a little of Gillian’s work. I think she’s a terrific writer. With that great cover and a quality story, this is a good beginning for Magpie Eclectic.

  5. I think someone needs to let them know that the link to their acquisitions form and submission guidelines isn’t active at the bottom of the author requirements page.
