First, the book. This book is probably one of the best I’ve ever read about writing…or, specifically, self-publishing. (Because, yes, I’m leaning more and more toward that route with at least some of my stuff. More about that in a post or two.) If you only buy and read one publishing book in 2014, let it be this one: Write. Publish. Repeat. by Sean Platt and Jonny B. Truant. They talk about writing, and marketing, and…you know…how to actually make a living off of writing, despite the negative voices out there saying that it can’t be done.
Their focus is, of course, on self-publishing, but I think that traditionally published authors or even hybrid authors could benefit from their ideas. Read it.
Also, along the same lines…make it a habit each Thursday to go to the blog of Kristine Kathryn Rusch. She blogs about all things related to the business side of writing.
And, for the final one, subscribe to The Passive Voice. I get an email from this blog everyday and it is chock full of writing/publishing-related news, quotes, etc. Some of the articles are good ones that every author should know about, and others are just fun to read.
What amazing writerly book or website did you discover in 2013?
