Hey folks, my critique group, Oxygraphos, is looking for a fourth writer to join our ranks! I’ve been a part of this group for about a year, and it’s been extremely helpful. I’ve learned a lot from these gals! So, here are some details:
*We’re a Christian group.
*We’re also a professional level group. For our purposes, “professional” means you have writing credits to your name or a complete, polished manuscript you’re currently shopping to publishers.
*Writers looking to apply must be fans of speculative fiction, including some of the more “out-there” genres like cyberpunk and steampunk. You do not HAVE to be a writer of speculative fiction to apply–however, we do not critique work that is romance/historical romance/Amish, or horror, not because we dislike those genres, but because some of us don’t feel like we know enough about those genres to be competent in critiquing it.
*We work on a rotating schedule. Each month, one member sends their work in to the other three for critique. Each member gets approximately three months off (while the others critique their work) and critiques for the other members the remaining months. Each month we critique approximately 50,000 words. We have fairly strict deadlines, so please carefully consider the time commitment.
There is some more info, but this is the most pertinent. If you’re interested, send an email to our tryouts coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org and request more info. Also, start preparing your application packet, which should include:
*A standard query letter
*A 1-2 page synopsis
*First chapter of your novel (max 2,500 words)
These should be for the first work you’d submit for critique if we accepted you. Also, if we invite you to a tryout, we will send you three first chapters from our current or expected next submissions. You’d be expected to critique these, and we would also critique your work, to see if our styles all work together. Our deadline for the application packet submission is December 14, 2013.
Again, if you’re interested in more info, please email our tryouts coordinator at email@example.com.
Have a good day, authors! 🙂
