Seventh Star Press issued calls for submissions for two upcoming anthologies. Seventh Star is a small publisher in Kentucky. The company website doesn’t indicate whether it’s a Christian publisher. Since the publisher allows gore and sex “if it fits the story,” the company is clearly not aiming for the old-school Christian submarket. Writers interested in reaching the general market may want to check these out.
A Chimerical World: Tales of the Seelie Court/Tales of the Unseelie Court
“Looking for fictional stories involving the Fey Folk, both Seelie and Unseelie. From the campy to the deep and esoterical, from traditional faeries to the not-so-traditional…Fantasy is obviously expected but all spec-fic genres welcome…Slipstream? Go for it!”
The book is planned as a two-sider, with Seelie stories in one half, then you flip the book over and the Unseelie stories are on the other.
Deadline: July 15.
Hero’s Best Friend: An Anthology of Animal Companions
“This anthology is all about the furries and scalies who help insure that the hero can succeed in his or her quest. The stories for this anthology will focus more on the animal companions than the heroes they help, preferably done from the animals’ perspective…Fantasy and Sword & Sorcery expected, but all genres are welcome.”
Editor Scott Sandridge specifies that stories need not be written in the first person.
Deadline: June 30.
Both books will be available in print and e-book in the fall. Word counts must be in the 2,000-10,000 range. Contributors will be paid from a royalty pool.
