There Is Actually, A “Try”.

“Only the Sith deal in absolutes.”–Obi-Wan Kenobi

I give you the following; evidence of Yoda, the Master Jedi, dealing in absolutes.

“Do or Do not. There is no try.”- Master Yoda.

Cool, huh?

Okay now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I would like to share with you a short message I heard years ago. Ever since, I’ve thought back to it and realized that though simple, it really is powerful.

A rabbi sat next to a priest at a boxing match. The fighters entered the ring, full of bravado; prepared for the bout ahead. As the bell rang, one of the fighters made the sign of the cross. The rabbi leaned over to the priest and asked, “What does that mean?”
The priest nodded and said, “Not a damn thing if he can’t fight.”

A reflection of the verse of verses, James 2:20:“How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?”

We can pray to be a better writer. For sure. Don’t get me wrong. But, we must actually write and write and write, to become one. Wanting to be something is great. Everyone must have a dream…or dreams. It’s human nature to dream. But, remember, in order to make that dream a reality we must awaken. We must continually hone our gifts, our talents, in order to strengthen them. If not, they are dead, or they will eventually, die.

Try it. You might surprise yourself.

About Tymothy Longoria

Tymothy Longoria has been described as a writer with a flair for the dramatic (whether this is true still remains to be seen). He is a fan of all things fantastic, metal music, black t-shirts, and aligns himself with geeks, nerds, and all manner of monsters, and is an ardent, optimistic supporter of his fellow creatives. He has written several short stories for the online macabre zine Underneath The Juniper Tree and in 2012 was awarded Debut Author of the Year by Twisted Core Press for 'Envy', his contribution to the Seven Deadly Sins Anthology. He is currently editing his full-length dark fantasy retelling, Revenants: Book One of The Stories. Fairy tales? If only. Legends will be reborn. Tymothy calls Texas home, where he lives with his wife, two children, and a cat called ThunderCat aka Kitty PawKitty. He is represented by Bree Ogden of Red Sofa Literary.

  1. Not a damn thing if he can’t fight. That’s funny.

And it is very true. You write and write and write and study your craft until your eyes cross. And it’s still only the tip of the iceberg.

  2. *Nodding*

  3. Great post, my friend!
Once again, you’ve brought a message that I needed to hear. 😉
    Gotta keep on writing.
    Thanks for sharing!
