Renegade Project 24: Prince Sander

“I need to speak with the Prince, Lord Sander.”

The guard at the gate eyes you dubiously. “Yeah? What about?”

“Regarding the disappearance of Selyna, the daughter of Galen the merchant.”

“Who?” The man gapes at you.

You take a deep breath – why couldn’t anything be simple? “Please simply relay the message and I expect your Lord will know the name – Selyna, Galen’s daughter.”

The guard whispers something to his comrade and they both glance your way, then the first ducks inside and heads for the main building.

After several awkward moments, you see the guard, pale-faced and rushing back.

“Let him in! Hurry, sir, this way. The Prince will see you right away.

Suppressing a smug smile, you follow. He leads you in through the main doors of the large house. Though not the official Royal Palace, the mansion is vast and richly ornate with a mind to luxuries. Marble statues and gilded antiques dot the wide hallways and colorful rugs pad the floors.

Upon entering a small audience chamber, you find two men in heated conversation – one is Natin, Galen’s youngest son.
Natin turns and his eyes widen. “You?”

The other man, a middle-aged fellow with a slightly paunchy waistline and thinning black hair, raised a hand. “You know this man, Natin?” This is the Prince? The man that Selyna loves?

“Of course! My Father hired him to guard the estate. He’s the one I told you about, that saw Gallino selling weapons to Cinea.”

The Prince raises his eyebrows and he turns back to you. “Indeed. And you say you have word of Selyna?”

“I believe I know where she’s being held.”

“You do?” Natin demands, grabbing your arm. “Where?”

The Prince eyes you. “Is she well? How heavy is the guard?”

You shake your head. “I couldn’t confirm it up close – too risky. There’s a cottage in an open field to the east of the city. A rider would be spotted almost a mile off. I didn’t see anyone around the outside of the building, but the guards left behind at the barracks said she was there.”

The Prince frowns. “Could easily be a decoy, or a trap.”

“I think the latter,” you say. “Another of the men privately warned me that it was a trap, but wouldn’t say more. But even if she’s not in there, then whoever is waiting there might be made to talk, if taken alive.”

Grimly, the Prince nods. “Rally a band of a hundred guards, ready to ride!”

  1. Ren,

I like option 2 best. For now. I’m feeling kinda sleep-deprived. Maybe later I’ll like something else better? 😉

  2. Give Directions and request guards to return to the estate and help you apprehend Gallino before he has much of a chance to do any more damage (oh, and pick up some more herbs on the way)

Though I usually read both choices, lol.

  3. Give Directions and request guards to return to the estate and help you apprehend Gallino before he has much of a chance to do any more damage (oh, and pick up some more herbs on the way)

  4. I agree. Option 2. You’ve done all you can at the moment for Selyna. Your sleep-deprived body won’t do much more shuffled in with the Prince’s 100 men, and someone needs to take care of Gallino. You’ve left her in good hands, and you have other responsibilities.

  5. […] to sneak through on your own to the cottage -OR- Get help from Prince Sander -OR- Wait until dark to sneak in by yourself -OR- […]
